The last 12 months have seen Steel City undergo a number of changes. Not only have they relocated their Canadian head Office and a number of North American warehouses, they also redesigned some of their machinery.
Their new Canadian head office and parts warehouse is in Kitchner, Ontario, and their North American Technical Service operation is based out of the same location. BC is now home to Steel City's Canadian machinery warehouse, which moved west from Mississauga. This works well with the move of the new US parts warehouse to California. 'We moved the parts warehouse from Tennessee to California last May and it was not without headaches,' says Terry Ross, the company's Kitchner-based technical service manager. 'The reorganization is now complete and parts orders are shipping on time. The reorganization of machinery to the west coast of both countries results in less shipping damages and costs.'
It's not just the mortar and bricks that have seen changes — their table saw has undergone a number of updates as well. It has been redesigned to include a riving knife, and the way they manufacture their granite table saw top is different. 'You will no longer see any seams,' says Ross proudly, speaking of the change to the machines' new surface. The newly designed saw should be available to the Canadian market this August.
Late this spring, Steel City assisted with the SKILLS Provincial and National competition at RIM Park in Waterloo. This is the third year that the company has sponsored the Provincial competition and the first year for the National event. They supplied the competition with over 30 pieces of machinery.
